Box Office Report: Mockingjay Part 1 Opens Strong In First Spot

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 blasted at the box office in its opening weekend with an estimated 123 million $, the film is the biggest opening of 2014 and will probably remain so unless The Hobbit: The Battle Of Five Armies can beat that number. Mockingjay was expected to bring in even a little more than 123 million $, given its wide release in 4,151 locations and not to mention that Catching Fire performed better on the same week last year. Interstellar had a strong hold in third place bringing in a total of 120 million $. I’d love to see the film pass the 200 million $ mark at the US box office but with the crowded upcoming season I don’t see that as a possibility. Check out the full weekend box office below:

Hugh Jackman In The Running For An New Movie Musical

Hugh Jackman Slice 2 Fox movies are planning a new live-action movie musical that will be the first original one in 14 years since Moulin Rouge! According to Deadline, Fox is currently budgeting the film and hoping to begin rolling by next summer, and they’ve set their eyes on Hugh Jackman to take on the leading role in The Greatest Showman on Earth. Jackman made me cry several times in Les Miserables, and I’d love to see him in another musical. Last year Bill Condon was brought in to re-write the script and director Michael Gracie is set to helm with original songs being written by Justin Paul, Benz Pasek, Bonnie McKee, Jake Shear, and Brian Lapin. Fox is also making deals with other actors in order to make the summer shoot next year. The film will center on Barnum’s invention of show business, and his ultimate invention of the three-ring circus.

The trailer features plenty of new footage and has a lot of action all over, and though the trailer doesn’t signal any good vibes, I’m hoping this one turns out to be nice and a interesting at least as much as Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters. The film stars Ben Barnes, Jeff Bridges, Julianne Moore, Alicia Vikander, Kit Harington, Olivia Williams, Antje Traue, and Djimon Hounsou. Check out the new trailer below:

Box Office Report: Dumb & Dumber To Proves Moviegoers Are Dumb

In a bit of shocking news, Dumb & Dumber To took the first spot this week at the US box office with an estimated 38 million $, and proved that audiences are dumb enough to watch one of the worst movies of 2014. Presumably the original is a beloved classic and people actually wanted to see it, as it currently holds a 27 % rating at Rotten Tomatoes (I’m surprised it got that much). In third place came Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar which received fire this past week from moviegoers and exhibitors alike due to sound problems, ( I watched the film two times in different theaters and had no problems making out what the actors are saying) and brought in an estimated 30 million $ for a total of 97.81 million $. In fifth place David Fincher’s Gone Girl which has earned 152 million $ for its 7 week run. Check out below the entire US Box Office:
